Aftermath (of the blog and the flood)
You know one of the reasons I didn’t wanna start a blog was because I’m an OCD. Mildly OCD of course because I don’t wash my hands for hours or look out of the window constantly to see if there’s been an accident in the last 3 secs but yes I do wash my hands with soap every time I use the washroom – and when I cook (once in a blue moon tho’) I’m constantly washing my hands and wiping them and washing the knife and the cutting board every time I finish using it – even between cutting stuff up! But yeah I didn’t wanna start a blog because now I’m gonna have to constantly write it – the pressure is unbearable! What if I can’t write it today – or what if I have nothing to write about! Bloody hell!
But as it happens I do have stuff to write today. For instance – what my friends and I went through in the Bombay floods is nothing compared to what other people have been through. My flood story’s quite campy actually. But since yesterday I’ve been bombarded with info about people dying in their cars, watching their houses flooding and losing all they owned. Not a happy story out there, people.
Update on the flood and its aftermath –
- People have been calling me asking about Dioxycycline and Leptospirosis – I have no clue about it but try and help as much as I can by calling my bro-in-law in Baroda every 5 mins to ask for advise. This is the scene – take 100mg Dioxycycline 1 tab X 5 days or a 200mg Dioxycycline 1 tab X 3 days – but please watch out if you’re diabetic or have high blood pressure or ulcers. But don’t quote me. Check with your physician.
- Bob’s lost his money and credit cards
- Nitin swam to his niece’s school in Chembur to rescue her
- Subi carried his niece on his shoulders for hours on end to get her to safety
- Sailesh swam in the VeeraDesai River (yup the road became a river) to help 2 women – he hurt himself when he swam into a Sumo that was totally submerged in the water – then climbed onto it to warn people away from it
- The Naiks lost their laptops, computers, books in the flood – nothing was insured
- Cherian was absolutely safe at home but he got out and waded around on Linking Road helping people to safety. The roads were pitch dark and full of scary manholes. He finally got back at 4am but not before stopping off at Janta the local bar which was full of rescuers who’d taken a much-needed break
- A doctor and his driver from our neighbourhood died in their car
- 3 young boys also died in their car – sad but true – their automatic locking system jammed and refused to open – I don’t think people will ever look at their auto lock system with much affection now
